On 3 July Prof. Hiltraud Casper-Hehne and the team of the Göttingen Project "Welcome Centre Campus & Region" met with Mr. Michiel Kasteleijn in Göttingen. Mr. Kasteleijn is the managing director of the "International Welcome Centre North" (IWCN) in Groningen. The centre assists professionals from all over the world and upon their arrival, in acquainting them with the north of the Netherlands. The region comprises the provinces of Groningen, Friesland and Drenthe.
The IWCN was set up at the end of 2014 and provides support to newly arriving professionals and specialists in three areas: registration formalities (e.g. residence permits and registration with the residence office), information and recommendations on the different service industries available in the region (such as accommodation, language schools, childcare, and cleaning services), as well as social activities, including networking events and workshops on cultural and professional themes.
Mr. Kasteleijn discussed the initial setup phase and current activities, providing the Göttingen Team with valuable input into the activities of the "International Welcome Centre of the North". By the conclusion of discussions, many relevant issues and topics were addressed, such as data administration, acquiring new customers, and corporate design.
The team at the Göttingen Campus is currently undergoing its own planning phase and development for the upcoming "Welcome Centre Campus & Region". The future organization will assist in the recruitment of international professionals and specialists and provide ongoing support to those already living in the region of Southern Lower Saxony, in order to keep them here as permanent residents. The Welcome Centre is scheduled to open in 2019.
