ResEffFrom 13 to 14 November 2013, the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen will host the first International Conference on Resource Efficiency in Interorganizational Networks (ResEff).

Renewable raw materials are becoming increasingly important as an alternative resource in industrial networks. Consequently, research for methods improving the efficient use of renewable resources in production processes with by-products is crucial. The aim of the research is cascade utilization, and thus the multiple utilization of a raw material before its conversion into energy.

The conference brings together interdisciplinary researchers developing strategies and solution concepts for efficient resource utilization.

aula kleinSome 50 social scientists from the U4 network universities (comprising professors, postdocs and PhD students from Gent, Groningen, Göttingen and Uppsala) gathered in Göttingen for a conference on 12-14 October 2012. In what was termed a "bazaar conference" (focusing more on existing research than a single topic) they looked for common research interests and seeked to establish areas for future cooperation.

U4 LogoOn 7 and 8 October Groningen hosts the Vth Rectors' Meeting. During this two-day meeting all clusters and working groups will present their work-in-progress and their future ambitions to the gathered rectors.

This year's meeting welcomes a new U4 rector: Eva Äkesson from Uppsala University. Well-known are Rector Paul van Cauwenberge (Ghent University), President Ulrike Beisiegel (Georg-August Universität Göttingen), and President Sibrand Poppema (Rijksuniversiteit Groningen).

The aim of the rectors' meeting is to focus on the line of policy for 2013 and to present the U4 roadmap for the coming year.

aula kleinThe goal of the conference is to foster cooperation between individual researchers, groups, and institutes across the U4 universities.

The joint conference is labelled "bazaar". This means that participants are invited to show what they have "on offer" - what it is that they focus on in their research - and shop around in order to meet new contacts in their field of study.

The conference topic "Global governance and regulation" is meant to be interpreted broadly. As a theme it mainly relates to social sciences, law and economics, but also other approaches are most welcome!

EM iDEAOn November 23rd, 2011 the first EM-idEA conference takes place at Ghent University.

The aim of the EM-iDEA project is to bring together the community working on Erasmus Mundus type projects, to exchange and to prepare collective actions.

The Ghent conference is the first of six regional conferences organised by the project. The others will be held before July 2013 in: Lund, Vilnius, Valencia, Novi Sad and Bordeaux.
