On 26 September Rik Van de Walle and Mieke Van Herreweghe were formally appointed Rector and Vice-rector at Ghent University after obtaining amply the necessary majority of the votes.

Uppsala opens Segerstedt Building
On the 1st of September Uppsala opened the new central university hub. The building will house the university management and roughly 600 employees, gathering the whole university administration.

U4 'Biomass' Summer School
The 1st edition of the U4 Summer School 'Sustainable Use and Re-use of Biomass' brought about 25 PhD and Master students together with diverse backgrounds. The programme focused on production, technological processes and the legal, economic and political aspects of the use of Biomass.

16 international PhD students and Postdocs took part in the summer course 'What about the Family? An interdisciplinary course on Ethical Issues in Health and Social Care' to focus on family ethics research questions under the lead of several U4 lecturers.

The 'AMR' Summer School offered a combination of theory and clinical and lab practicals, with the aim of creating the awareness among the students of the need of interdisciplinarity in the fight against antibiotics resistance.

HASCO Summer School
This year's Hadron Collider Physics Summer School (HASCO 2017) marked the 6th edition and gathered 60 undergraduate students from 15 different countries to learn about hadron collider physics.

Joint PhD Student - Uppsala and Göttingen
Petar Bokan has started a double degree Ph.D. program in Physics at Uppsala University and the University of Goettingen in 2016. He is jointly supervised by Prof. Arnaud Ferrari (Uppsala University) and Prof. Stan Lai (University of Göttingen).
