U4 Article in 'Science'
An innovative study on housefly males, carried out by leading scientists from Groningen and Göttingen was published in 'Science' (12 May). The study is not only important for understanding the evolution of sex determination. More knowledge of the housefly genetics can also aid the development of environmental friendly control methods of pest insects.
The focus of the U4 Environmental Law network workshop is 'Governing Facts and Feeling in Environmental Decision-Making: Towards Equal Opportunities in Environmental Governance'. Participants can register until 23 June.
Within the cluster Science and Technology, a U4 Summer School cycle on Energy, Sustainability and Society will be launched. A first edition, dealing with the central theme of 'Sustainable use and re-use of biomass. PhD students can apply until 30 June.
The programme is open to Master students and junior PhD students who have a specific interest in neuroscience and want to be trained to face one of the biggest challenge of the century: ageing. Students can apply until 30 June.
SPIRIT Summer School 'Molecular Genetics for Zoologists'
The symposium aims at bringing international scientists together who work on the understanding of the function of genes in all kinds of zoological phenomena. The symposium is followed by a 3-days training workshop. PhD students and postdocs can still register.
This summer school will provide a platform for theoretical, comparative and historical reflections and discursive critique on religion, conflict and peace. The Summer School is directed to PhD students. Participants can register until 30 June 2017
The DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) offers many funding programmes to support the mobility and exchange of Postdocs to realise international research projects or to gain teaching experiences worldwide.
Summer School 'International Migration in a Globalised World'
This summer school offers a two-weeks intensive, interdisciplinary and participative programme in international migration. Participants will get insight into reasons of migration and the effects on societies of receiving countries.
The medical students from Ghent University are proud to present the 7th edition of the Summer School 'Health & Migration'. This 10-day educational program is packed with interesting lectures, altered with social and cultural activities.
The aim of 2nd U4 Sustainability meeting was to follow-up on the frontrunner approach around the implementation of a chosen frontrunner idea in one of the many dimensions of sustainability: Energy Policy, Mobility, Sustainability Education, Green Office, etc. Also other possibilities for joint climate projects were addressed.
The 3rd edition of the SSEL Cluster Conference was hosted by Uppsala around the central theme of 'On the Move – Exploring Contemporary Dynamics of Migration'. The conference brought together more than 120 PhD students and researchers with the aim of disseminating ongoing research.
The Department of Comparative Science of Cultures of Ghent University organized a workshop on the nascent field of Comparative Political Theory and the Question of Secularization. The workshop is part of a series of workshops that aims to establish a new European Network for Comparative Political Theory and Intellectual History.
Participants from Groningen, Göttingen and Uppsala discussed research findings within the field of medical law and human rights. The workshop focused on the thematic areas of a.o. children's rights in medical law, end-of-life decision making and reproductive medicine.
In collaboration with the Department of International and Cross-Strait Education of the Ministry of Education of Taiwan, the U4 network organized a two-days workshop on the current issues concerning the Asia Pacific region: 'Maritime Territorial Disputes In The Asia Pacific Region: A Critical Appraisal'.
The aim of the U4 Gender Studies network meeting was to prepare the 2018 Summer School in 'Gender Research' at Uppsala University. The theme of the 2018 Summer School will be 'Methods, Methodologies and Responsibility: Complexities in Gender Research'.
Participants from all U4 universities shared current ongoing research and discussed the research highlights within the field of obstructive lung diseases. Common aspects of interest in basic science include the role of immune responses.
Student delegations of all partner universities examined student well-being and inclusivity in different dimensions. Through various working groups themes as inclusiveness, students hazing, mental health, and disability were discussed.
